Directions to the scene shop: 2107 N. Highcross Road, Urbana Phone: 344-2685
The scene shop is located in the old Pyramid Paper Warehouse on High Cross Road in far northeast Urbana. It is just across the street from the Apple Dumpling restaurant, and behind the Apostolic Life Church. Our entry door is on the south side of the building in the rear, immediately adjacent to a large overhead garage door. The routes there are rather convoluted. Probably the most direct route is to go north on US 45 (Cunningham Avenue) in north Urbana, accessed from either I74 or from University Ave. Drive under I74 and past the lights at the new Farm and Fleet Store on the left and the Park Inn’s nice new sign on the right The next stoplight beyond the Farm and Fleet entrance is at Airport Road. Turn right (east) on Airport Road and drive about 1.5 miles east to the 2nd stop sign. You will have passed a residential area to your right (south) and will be driving through a wooded section of road as you approach the stop sign (4-way). This is High Cross Road. Turn right (south) on High Cross Road and cross the bridge and climb the little hill - the first major structure you encounter will be the church on the right. The entry drive to the scene shop is just past the church on the road - drive into the big gravel parking lot and park. Make sure you are using the entrance on the south side of the building. The scene shop is at the far end of the main church building - - away from Highcross Road. There is a large garage door, and right next to it, a standard entrance door. This is the place. Just come in, don’t bother to knock, as it’s often too loud to hear you. What to Expect When You Come Out: There will be a lot of dust and general clutter, so wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. There is a restroom and running water, but it is not a luxury affair. It is heated, but the building is often cold early in the evening, heating up as we go. Dress in layers. If you have a pair of sturdy work gloves, you might bring them along. There are many opportunities for small splinters. If you see anything you’d like to learn to use in the shop, just ask us and we’ll try and teach you how. If you get lost, call the number for directions. Let it ring quite a while -- it often takes us some time to get to it. |
