I woke up this morning to the tune “When You Got It, Flaunt It” playing in my head. Most likely this is because I was working with the lovely Malia Andrus on that very number at last night’s rehearsal. But I must say, this entire cast could really say they “got it” and I can’t wait to see them “flaunt it” on stage!

In my continual replaying of the score in my head, it occurs to me how high-energy this show is, musically. These aren’t your standard big Broadway-style numbers–they’re ratcheted up at least eight or ten notches from “standard”. These singers are just ON, all of the time! I get tired just listening to them sometimes!

Overall, I’m really pleased with the progress this cast is making. There are so many neat moments in the score, and I get a little giddy every time I hear them happen in rehearsal. It’s really a fun time. I’ve been able to look in on a couple of staging and choreography rehearsals too, and the stuff they’re coming up with is really, really funny. I would go on, but hopefully they’ll chime in here with an entry or two of their own.

I’ve said this to the cast and I’ll say it here–this group is not only really talented, but very fun to work with. I can have a crappy or stressed-out day, and going to a rehearsal completely turns that around. And I think that when the process is this much fun, the show can’t help but be every bit as much fun. I can’t wait to see and hear these guys in front of an audience. “Love it!”
