Thank you for your interest in theatre arts classes with CUTC! We are planning lots of fun ways to engage students of all ages.

For preschoolers & pre-readers: Story Time!
Children and caregivers come together to explore stories and characters, both familiar and new, in a healthy outlet for creative expression. Listening skills and dramatic play foster a safe environment for young children to express their emotions and ideas. Plenty of movement activities, too!

For elementary students: Readers' Theatre
Reader's Theatre involves children in oral reading through reading parts in scripts. Unlike traditional theater, the emphasis is mainly on oral expression of the part. Reader's Theatre is "theater of the imagination". It involves children in understanding their world, creating their own scripts, reading aloud, performing with a purpose, and bringing enjoyment to both themselves and their audiences.

For secondary students and adults: Theatre Arts I & II
Students gain exposure to the process of creating dramatic work. Topics of study include: scene work and memorization, breathing and vocalization, movement and blocking, and character development. Classes will be divided to accommodate beginner and intermediate levels. This is also a great introduction or refresher for adults!

Other classes currently in development include Production Techniques (Lighting, Sound, Properties, Makeup, etc.) and Theatre History. Shorter workshops are also in development for specialized areas like stage combat, advanced stage effects, audition preparation, introduction to musical theater, and directing techniques.

We are very excited about what's new in theater education, and we hope you are too! If one of our new classes looks like something you or your child is interested in, why not tell a friend? We do maintain minimum class sizes in order to ensure a viable experience for all, so this is definitely a case of "the more, the merrier!" Classes are held on Saturdays and generally run for eight weeks at a time. Fees vary but are around $150 per class. Payment is due at the first class. Membership in CUTC is not required, but does give you a discount on classes. Sibling discounts are available as well.
