AUDITION
INFORMATION
Champaign Urbana Theatre Company announces auditions for
The first production of the 21st Season
THE PRODUCERS
Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in
anyone familiar with Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film. As a big Broadway
musical, THE PRODUCERS once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous,
in-your-face humor. It is a truly "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony
Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night.
A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come
up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby
bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars.
Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max and Leo as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously
offensive "Springtime For Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and
finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic
construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.
Auditions will be on Friday, January 13, from 6-9 pm., and Saturday, January 14,
from 10-5 pm. Callbacks, if necessary, will be on Sunday from 1-4pm.
Auditions are by appointment. To select your time, please call 217-344-3884.
Walk-ins are welcome, but priority will be given to those with an
appointment.
For the audition, tap, tumble, or other dancing skills are a bonus. Do not
base your audition performance on the Broadway show. Music: 32 bars, not
from the show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided.
Auditions will be held at CUTC's new location at 608 N. Cunningham Ave. in
Urbana.
The show will be performed at Parkland College Theatre March 15-18 and
22-25, 2012.
Any additional questions can be answered through CUTC's main office at
217-344-3884.
Who
May Audition?
Auditions for CUTC productions are open to anyone. Everyone is encouraged
to audition regardless of theatrical experience. For student productions,
auditions are open to recent high school graduates or younger.
When
Are Auditions?
Typically auditions occur on a Saturday and Sunday approximately two
months before the show. If needed, callbacks occur on the Monday immediately
following auditions. Please view the show description for specific audition
dates as well as a list of primary characters.
How
Are Auditions Conducted?
Auditions for musicals are typically split into two sections:
The first
section is the vocal audition. In this audition the person auditioning
is asked to sing a few bars of a prepared piece. An accompanist is provided.
During this time the individual may also be asked to read a scene from
the script.
The second
section of the audition is for dance. If there is dancing for the part
you are auditioning for, you will be taught some basic steps for the
show and then you will use those for the dance audition. Please be sure
to wear comfortable shoes and clothing for the dance audition. Open-toed
shoes are not permitted in the audition space.
Where
Are Auditions Conducted?
Auditions are generally held at 608 N. Cunningham Road in Urbana unless
otherwise noted in the information about auditions.
Preparing
to Audition
Sample readings from the script are generally available for reading
before auditions. Please contact the CUTC office for details and script
availability. Individuals are encouraged to read through the show before
the audition.
The most
important aspect of the audition is to have fun!
Rehearsals
Rehearsals run six to eight weeks prior to the opening of a show. Rehearsal
locations for the 2011 season are subject to change. You will be notified
by the production staff where rehearsals will be held.
