Auditioning for Shows

Who May Audition?
Auditions for CUTC productions are open to anyone. We encourage everyone to audition regardless of theatrical experience.

When Are Auditions?
Typically auditions occur on a Saturday and Sunday approximately two months before the show. If needed, callbacks occur on the Monday immediately following auditions. Please view the show description for specific audition dates as well as a list of primary characters.

How Are Auditions Conducted?
Auditions for musicals are typically split into two sections. The first section is the vocal audition. In this audition the person auditioning is asked to sing a few bars of a prepared piece. An accompanist is provided. During this time the individual may also be asked to read a scene from the script. If there is dancing for the part you are auditioning for, you will be taught some basic steps for the show and then use those for the dance audition.

Where Are Auditions Conducted?
Auditions are generally held at he Busey Center, 208 W. Main, Urbana, IL 61801 unless otherwise noted in the information about auditions.

Preparing to Audition
Scripts are generally available for reading before auditions. Individuals are encouraged to read through the show before the audition.

The most important aspect of the audition is to have fun.

Rehearsals
Rehearsals generally start the week after the cast list is announced and are held at the Busey Center, 208 W. Main, Urbana, IL 61801.

Audition Information

Some of you may think, "I've heard of this show, but I don't know any of the music." That's okay, I get that a lot, but I bet you do know the songs "Hey Big Spender" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now". See, you know this show!

Auditions for Sweet Charity will be held:

Friday, January 23, 2008 6pm - 9pm
Saturday, January 24, 2008 10am - 4pm
Sunday, January 25, 2008 11am - 3pm

Please bring 16 bars of music to sing of your choice. Preferably not from the show. Wear comfy clothes as there will be a dance audition. Callbacks, if necessary, will be Sunday, January 25th at 6pm. You must be at least 16 to audition.

Spend your Spring Break with CUTC! Show performances are March 26, 27, 28 and 29, 2008!

Rehearsals will begin February 2, 2008. They will usually be Monday - Thursday, 6:30 - 9:30 and some Saturdays, 10 - 2.

This is a real opportunity to show off your dancing and singing. There are strong dancing roles for men and women. There are parts for singers who don't dance; dancers who don't sing; and actors who neither dance nor sing!

The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their upcoming student production Les Miserables, Friday May 1st from 6-9pm,Saturday May 2nd from 10-4 pm and Sunday from 1-3pm at the Busey Center 208 W. Main St. Urbana. Audition Information-Dress Comfortable for Movement Please bring in roughly 16 bars of music to perform with piano sheet music. An Accompanist will be provided.
